RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction
RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction reflects the role of specialist civil construction personnel who apply broad technical knowledge and may supervise operations. They may coordinate work activities, monitor quality, solve non-routine problems and support delivery against project requirements.
RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction is a nationally recognised qualification comprising 12 units – five core units and seven elective units. Electives are selected in accordance with the qualification’s packaging rules and should reflect the participant’s technical or supervisory responsibilities, workplace activities and nominated specialisation. Participants must demonstrate competency in every required unit to receive the full qualification. Completion develops civil construction supervision and technical capability but does not, by itself, provide a licence, statutory appointment or employer authorisation for a particular role or regulated activity.
The qualification is relevant to experienced personnel moving beyond task-based delivery into coordination, technical support and frontline supervision. Electives should reflect the participant’s work environment and area of responsibility.
The final unit selection must satisfy the qualification packaging rules. Calibre will confirm the units offered and help align suitable electives with the participant’s job role, existing competencies, workplace activities and training needs.
Delivery and assessment arrangements are confirmed with each participant or employer before enrolment. The final program will reflect the training product requirements, participant experience, workplace access, available equipment and the practical evidence required for assessment.
Calibre may use a combination of trainer-led learning, workplace activities, practical demonstration, questioning, written tasks and evidence gathered in an appropriate work environment. The delivery method, expected duration and assessment requirements will be set out in the applicable course information and enrolment documentation.
Before enrolment, Calibre will confirm whether the program is suitable for the participant. This may include reviewing existing competencies, language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, physical or operational requirements, prerequisite units, access to a suitable workplace, plant or equipment, and any identification, PPE, medical or rail-network requirements.
Separate licences, appointments, permits, VOCs or site-specific competencies may apply to particular supervisory functions, plant or regulated activities.
Calibre works with employers, HR teams, project managers and operational leaders to coordinate training around job roles, worksites, shift arrangements and workforce capability requirements. Group delivery and workplace-based options can be discussed where they are suitable for the training and assessment requirements.
