Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure
TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure is a general qualification for a person engaged in basic operations within the rail infrastructure environment. It supports work involving known routines and procedures and responsibility for the quality of the worker’s own outcomes.
Participants complete seven core units, a specialist elective stream and additional electives selected to suit their rail role and workplace.
This course leads to the nationally recognised TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure when all required core and elective units, training and assessment requirements are successfully completed. The elective pathway will be confirmed before enrolment to ensure it is appropriate for the participant’s intended job role and workplace requirements. Completion of the qualification does not automatically provide an RIW job role, rail-network authority, licence or employment; additional employer, role-specific and network requirements may apply.
This stream develops practical competencies used in track construction and maintenance, including track fundamentals, minor mechanical equipment, ballasting, sleeper installation, fastening systems and rail installation.
This stream covers track fundamentals, equipment checks, track geometry, ballasting and the operation or travel of on-track equipment used during track-surfacing activities.
Participants select sufficient additional electives to satisfy the qualification packaging rules. Electives should suit the participant’s role and workplace. Options may include:
TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor is completed as a core unit and is counted only once toward the qualification.
Delivery and assessment arrangements are confirmed with each participant or employer before enrolment. The final program will reflect the training product requirements, participant experience, workplace access, available equipment and the practical evidence required for assessment.
Calibre may use a combination of trainer-led learning, workplace activities, practical demonstration, questioning, written tasks and evidence gathered in an appropriate work environment. The delivery method, expected duration and assessment requirements will be set out in the applicable course information and enrolment documentation.
Before enrolment, Calibre will confirm whether the program is suitable for the participant. This may include reviewing existing competencies, language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, physical or operational requirements, prerequisite units, access to a suitable workplace, plant or equipment, and any identification, PPE, medical or rail-network requirements.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. Separate RIW, medical, network, operator or employer requirements may still apply to particular job roles and worksites.
Calibre works with employers, HR teams, project managers and operational leaders to coordinate training around job roles, worksites, shift arrangements and workforce capability requirements. Group delivery and workplace-based options can be discussed where they are suitable for the training and assessment requirements.
